Trans actress, singer and activist Peppermint has been announced as a Grand Marshal for this year’s New York City Pride March.

The announcement comes at a time when some LGBTQ+ advocates are calling on NYC Pride to reconsider partnerships with hospitals including NYU Langone and Mount Sinai. Concerns have been raised after both health systems reduced certain gender-affirming care services for transgender young people.

While Pride organisers have not announced any changes to those partnerships, the debate has brought renewed attention to the importance of protecting access to healthcare for trans youth.
