No Table, No Power, No Problem

So I had my Garba gig yesterday at Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, Queens. I thought I was prepared.
I spent days organizing Garba, Raas and Bollywood music, packed my gear, had backups ready… and then I arrived and discovered three tiny problems:
No table.
No electricity.
And a little rain.
So basically, DJ Mad Luuk became DJ MacGyver.
I got the laptop connected to their PartyBox speaker and kept things moving until my battery dropped to about 10%. Then I switched over to the Djay app on my phone, plugged that into the speaker with an adapter and carried on. Somehow the music never had to stop while I was figuring all this out.
And honestly? I LOVED the event. The Garba dancing was absolutely joyous — so much color, movement and energy. I’d spent a lot of time beforehand learning about the music because it was new territory for me, but once I was there I could just watch the dancers, feel what was happening and respond.
I even ended up joining the dancing myself!
Definitely one of those gigs that reminded me that DJing isn’t always about having the perfect setup. Sometimes it’s just: something has gone horribly wrong — solve it in thirty seconds and keep the party going.
Would absolutely do it again.
But next time I have to ask, “Soooo… will there be a table and electricity?”
Much love to you all and thank you so much for your support on this amazing platform.
