Behind the Scenes: What I’ve Been Up To with the Trans Radio UK Website
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been spending a lot of time working behind the scenes on the Trans Radio UK website, and honestly, it has been a huge job — but also a really exciting one.
A lot of what happens on the website might look simple from the outside, but behind that are lots of moving parts, little fixes, new ideas, testing, changing things, breaking things, fixing them again, and trying to make everything work better for presenters, listeners and the admin team.
One of the big things I’ve been working on is making the site feel more useful and more connected. We’ve been looking at different ways to improve how presenters use the website, how updates are shared, how gaps are managed, how blog posts can be added, and how the site can better reflect the people who make Trans Radio UK what it is.
I’ve also been working on new tools and features to make things easier behind the scenes. Some of these are designed to help presenters share updates, write blogs, upload images, and keep listeners more involved with what is happening across the station. The idea is to make the website feel more alive, more personal, and more connected to the voices you hear on air.
There has also been a lot of testing around making the site look better and work better. I want things to feel professional, accessible and easy to use. That means thinking about colours, text size, contrast, buttons, layouts, mobile views and making sure the site does not just look nice, but is actually usable for everyone.
Accessibility is really important to me. A website should not just be pretty; people need to be able to read it, use it and enjoy it without struggling. So I’ve been paying attention to things like readable text, clear buttons, better layouts, and making sure features work properly for as many people as possible.
Some of the work has also been about making things easier for the team. If we can reduce little admin jobs, make updates simpler, and give presenters more control over their own content, that helps everyone. It means more time can go into the station, the shows and the community.
It has definitely been one of those projects where one idea turns into ten more ideas, and then those ten ideas turn into even more work. But that is part of building something properly. Trans Radio UK is not just a radio station; it is a community space, and the website should feel like part of that.
There is still more to do, and there always will be, but I’m really proud of how things are developing. Bit by bit, we’re building something that feels more polished, more practical and more personal to Trans Radio UK.
So if you notice changes on the website, new sections appearing, things looking a little different, or new features being tested, that’s what has been going on behind the scenes.
It’s all being done with love, care, a little bit of chaos, and a lot of determination.
