About this Host

Pronouns: she/her

Melissa Loucks is a proud blind trans woman based in Florida, USA, and a passionate member of the Trans Radio UK team since January 2025. With a lifelong love of radio running through her veins – her parents even met while working at a radio station – Melissa brings decades of experience and an infectious enthusiasm to the airwaves.

You can catch Melissa hosting two fantastic shows each week:

  • Forever Young – Thursdays at 7pm, celebrating timeless classics and the spirit of youth through music.

  • Celebrate What? – Sundays from 2–4pm, an uplifting and eclectic mix that’s all about embracing joy, music, and the unexpected.

Melissa’s radio journey began in her teens, creating a pretend station in her bedroom with a tape recorder and record player. By 16, she was already working in commercial radio, eventually becoming an on-air presenter on adult contemporary stations for over a decade. Alongside her broadcasting career, she earned a degree in electrical engineering and worked in the helicopter industry as a systems engineer, contributing to major projects including aircraft for the Australian Navy. Later, she served as a 911 dispatcher – a role she found deeply rewarding.

Born with a rare eye cancer, Melissa lost one eye as a baby and became legally blind in 2019, which marked her retirement from full-time work – but not from radio. She now channels her energy and creativity into broadcasting with Trans Radio UK, where she continues to inform, entertain, and connect with listeners around the world.

Melissa also shares her life with her amazing guide dog, Ramona – proudly known as her “radio presenter assistant.”
