Melissa Loucks (she/her)

I am Melissa and I am a new member of the Trans Radio UK team. I am a blind trans woman who lives in Florida in the United States. I was born with a rare eye cancer and had one eye removed when I was one month old and had limited vision for quite a while after that and in 2019 I became legally blind.

I have loved radio all my life. My parents met when they both worked at a radio station and they were involved in radio for most of their lives. When I was a kid, I actually had a pretend radio station in my bedroom with a small tape recorder and a record player. Once I turned16 I began working in commercial radio, and within a couple of years was on the air doing shows on adult contemporary radio stations and I did that for about 10 years.

I had enough sight that I was able to go to college and obtain an electrical engineering degree and I worked in the helicopter industry for many years as a systems engineer on helicopters being developed for the Australian Navy. Later in my career, I became a 911 Dispatcher and enjoyed helping people. In 2019 when I became blind, that’s when I retired.

I love doing oldies shows and I have also done Classical Music radio shows in the past. I look forward to doing my shows and interacting with all the wonderful TRans Radio UK listeners.

By the way, the dog you see in my profile picture is my wonderful guide dog named Ramona and I consider her to be my Radio presenter assistant.
